Belzona 1212

Belzona 5831 (ST Barrier)

Problem: Severe corrosion on these pipes externals had developed over 50 years, several unsuccessful attempts to protect the pipe had been started and ended without fully protecting the surface over the last 10 years. Humidity of 100%, constant running water from the surface and no possibilty to gritblast meant conditions were not ideal for a coating application.

Application Situation
Corrosion on a 50 year old inlet manifold at the bottom of an 80 metre deep column in an Ilmenite factory.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of Belzona Know-How System Leaflet CEP-4. Manual surface preparation was carried out using a combination of different tools. Belzona 1212 was used to fill deep pitting in the surface. Then, Belzona 5831 was applied for corrsosion protection.
Belzona Facts
The Belzona surface-tolerant products were the only option considered for this application due to the humid conditions and constantly wet surface in the work area. The drying out of the application area would be very cost and time consuming. 80 sqm of pipe surface was completed successfully as planned in 9 working days.
