Belzona 5811 (Immersion Grade)

Problem: The chemical neutralization of the water that goes back into the river from this coal fired power plant takes place in four concrete neutralization basins. These basins had been coated with Belzona 4111 and over-coated with two coats of Belzona 5811 about 25 years ago.  Gradually over the years the chemical attack had eroded some of the product. There was peeling of the walls and some places were down into the concrete substrate.
Photograph Descriptions

1. Neutralization basins after 25 years of the Belzona System.
2.  The condition after pressure washing and brush blasting to remove all loose materials. Most of the substrate was in a good condition at that point.
3. Application of Belzona 4111, building up in layers to repair the holes in the concrete.
4. This is the first coat of Belzona 5811.

Application Situation
Four concrete neutralization basins.
The chemical neutralization of the water that goes back into the river from this coal fired power plant takes place in four concrete neutralization basins. The concrete must be protected from the chemicals.
Application Method
Belzona 4111 was built up in layers to fill in the holes in the concrete. Belzona 5811 was applied by brush and roller on a two coat system. The application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of TCC-9 and TCC-15.
Belzona Facts
Belzona 5811 had proven to be a real winner in this application since it had lasted so long. The Customer saved a lot of money since total removal was not necessary and the existing system could be repaired by brush blasting and re-coated. No other manufacturer would agree to go over the Belzona without total removal which would have cost more and done more damage to the concrete.
