Application Situation:

Two 200mm diameter carbon steel pipe elbows housed within a sewage treatment plant.



Carbon steel pipe elbows have been suffering over time from external corrosion due to weathering. The Customer required the restoration of metal loss on both pipes whilst adding further protection against future corrosion. The Customer was interested in a compliant composite solution to repair by reinstating the pipe's strength and to protect the pipework from further corrosion.

Application Method:

The application was carried out in accordance with a modified Belzona Know-How System leaflet VPF-11 for repairing leaks in pipes. The pipework was offline. Three wraps (6 layers) of Belzona SuperWrap II were applied to the repair area according to the design, specifically created for this application. 


Belzona Facts:

The Customer chose Belzona SuperWrap II because the system can be designed as a compliant repair to ISO and ASME standards, which can provide a specific design lifetime, up to 20 years. The Customer was pleased with the ease of application compared with traditional methods of repair, plus reducing downtime allowing the pipework to be back in service within 24 hours.
