Belzona Repairs Damaged Drum Filter to Keep Wastewater Plant Running

Problem: The drum itself was damaged, possibly during shipping or installation, as it was a new unit. The track where the drum turned was dented and this caused jumping and the drum could not turn smoothly.

1. Belzona 1221 Super E Metal being applied first with a stiff bristled brush and then smoothed with a simple former.

2. Belzona 1221 Super E Metal applied and ready for over-coating with Belzona 2911 conditioner and 2000 series elastomers.

Application Method

Substrate was cleaned and degreased and then given a surface profile with an MBX Bristle Blaster. The surface was then degreased again. Belzona 1221 Super E Metal was applied to the lowest points (dents) to build them back up. A custom former was used to help ensure concentricity. Belzona 2911 was applied to condition the surface and allowed to cure. Then a coat of red Belzona 2121 Hi-Coat Elastomer was applied followed by a second coat of Belzona 2121 in black.

Belzona Facts

The manufacturer was going to send the customer a new drum but it was going to take a significant amount of time for the new drum to be manufactured and shipped. This also provided the possibility that the new drum could be damaged in shipping or installation again. For a fraction of the cost and a massive reduction of downtime the original drum was restored for future use.
