Belzona Protects a Roof Above Transformers

KHIA ID: 7798
Industry: Buildings & Structures (BSTR)
Application: RPA-Roof Problem Areas (RPA)
Substrate: Steel and bitumen coating
Customer Location: Belgium
Application Date: 2018
Products:

Belzona 3921 (GSC Surface Conditioner)

Belzona 3111 (Flexible Membrane)

Problem: The roof had been protected with a bitumen coating, however, this was found to be unsatisfactory by the customer. As well as this, thanks to the building not being built to specifications, there were an estimated 160 perforations across the whole of the roof. This needed to be repaired and protected given the fact that the roof protects transformers and leaks could be very dangerous.

Application Situation
A roof made of steel and bitumen needed to be repaired and protected.
Application Method
The application began with the steel roof being cleaned with water and powder cleaner to remove all surface contaminants. According to a modified version of Belzona Know-How System Leaflet RPA-1, the surface was then manually roughened. A coat of Belzona 3921 Conditioner was then applied followed by a two-coat system of Belzona 3111 with a reinforcement sheet used in the first coat.
Belzona Facts
The application required between 2 and 4 people and was carried out under 3 weeks. Everything was done within the customer's timescale for the project and they were happy with the completed application.
