Industry:

Power (POWR)

Application:

Valves, Pipes and Fittings (VPF)

Customer Location:

Saudi Arabia

Application Date:

2018

Application Situation:

Expansion Bellows at a large fossil fuel-fired power plant.

Problem:

The expansion bellows were in critical condition where layers of the rubber were disbanded and accumulating. These were blocking the tubes at inlet section of the condenser and ultimately reducing its efficiency.

Products:

Belzona 2211 (MP Hi-Build Elastomer)

Belzona 2131 (D & A Fluid Elastomer)

Substrate:

Rubber

Application Method:

The Belzona application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of Belzona Know-How System Leaflet VFP-5. Loose rubber layers were removed and pieces of worn fabric were cut out to give way for wire brushing and roughening brush to complete the preparation. After Belzona 2921 cured, the rubber lining was rebuilt with Belzona 2211. Belzona 2131 was applied to provide a full encapsulation to the Belzona 2211 and up to the flange face section for additional strength.

Belzona Facts:

The Customer didn’t have enough stock to replace the deteriorated bellows and they were not prepared for the new quantities to be replaced. Since the Customer urgently needed to replace 2 bellows to meet the deadline of operation, Belzona 2211 was approved. The application was completed in four working days giving more time to the Customer to install the repaired bellow.
