Application Situation
Flange coupling connecting a 32" cooling water bypass line for the power plants cooling tower.
Application Method
The application took place during the plant's regular shutdown. The whole procedure including set up, surface preparation, application and clean up took 3 days. A tent enclosure was built and grit blasting was carried out by a contractor on the first day with a final frost blast early morning on the second day. The application was performed by the customers maintenance team. The bulk fill with Belzona 4141 and the first layer of Belzona 1982 SuperWrap II was done on the second day. After a detergent wash of the wrap and surface preparation of the first wrap, the second and third layer had been applied on the third and final day of the application. Each layer of the wrap has been individually consolidated with Belzona 9382 release film. The application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of Belzona Know-How System Leaflet - VPF-14.
Belzona Facts
The customer was looking for a more cost effective solution than replacing the coupling which would have involved removing a whole section of the connecting pipe and heavy equipment operating inside the plant. The customer also liked that we offered a whole package as a solution for their problem. Including the design of the Belzona system, a complete training of their maintenance personnel and application support/supervision of the whole project.
