Industry:

Marine (MRNE)

Application:

Ships and Offshore Structures (SOS)

Customer Location:

UK (Cornish) Luxury Yacht Builder

Application Date:

2002

Application Situation:

Installation of bearings into the stern tube housing

Problem:

Conventional methods of installation require many hours of machining time for press fitting. In service they can become slack through fretting and galvanic corrosion

Products:

Belzona® 1121 (Super XL Metal)

Belzona® 1321 (Ceramic S Metal)

Belzona® 9411 (Release Agent)

Substrate:

Aluminium

Application Method:

The application was carried out using a modified version of Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SOS-9. The bearing housing is grit blasted and the bearing rough turned prior to alignment and injection of the Belzona® 1321. Belzona® 9411 was only used on the alignment bolts to allow their later removal.
