Application Situation
A chemical neutralization bund in a refinery containing 90% concentration of sulfuric acid and 50% concentration of sodium hydroxide. Temperatures can reach up to 80ºC.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona System Leaflet TCC-15. The concrete was first cleaned with high pressure water jetting to remove the existing coating and contamination from the substrate. The surface was then grit blasted using a metallic grit, before Belzona 4911 was applied to ensure excellent adhesion. Finally, a two coat system of Belzona 4341 was applied to form a protective barrier.
Belzona Facts
A previous coating has failed to last after a short time in service. The customer required a long lasting coating to prevent the possibility of degradation of the concrete, which could lead to spillages into the ground. The customer had previous experience with Belzona solutions for various applications including pumps, composite patches, composite pipe wraps and more - and so had confidence that Belzona could deliver a solution for this application. After 1.5 years in service, the area was revisited and found to be in excellent condition.
