Belzona Repairs and Protects a Concrete Clarifier

KHIA ID: 8017
Industry: Water / Wastewater (WATR)
Application: FPA-Floor Problem Areas (FPA)
Substrate: Concrete
Customer Location: Scotland
Application Date: April 2018
Products: Belzona 4911 (TX Conditioner), Belzona 4131 (Magma-Screed),

Problem: Replacing the concrete with more concrete would not solve the base issue. Shutdown time was also an issue on the repair. An abrasion-resistant system was required to put the clarifier back to service fast.

Application Situation
A concrete clarifier was suffering from erosion and chemical attack. The loose aggregate from the concrete was getting into the system pumps and the rough floor surface was causing wear issues on the rubber scrapers.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of Belzona KNow-How System Leaflet FPA-1. The concrete was first power washed and prepared mechanically. The clarifier was marked out into sections. Each section was then conditioned with Belzona 4911 and then 6mm of Belzona 4131 applied.
Belzona Facts
The project was completed in 8 days. A concrete pour would have taken at least 28 days to cure after the initial application. It would also suffer from similar chemical and abrasive attack. The Belzona system provided a fast turnaround system with superior mechanical strength and chemical resistance the original concrete. The tank was drained for a shutdown in May 2019 & found to be in a perfect condition.
