Problem: Several areas on this deck was found to have thickness below the minimal allowable thickness. Some areas had through wall holes which caused leakages in to insulated storage areas below.

Application Situation

Heavily corroded offshore weatherdeck approx. 50sqm with up to 100% metal loss.

Application Method

The application was carried out in accordance with a Belzona system Leaflet GSS-9 Creating Irregular Shims. All through wall holes on the deck were repaired and sealed with Belzona 1111 (Super Metal) Following gritblasting of manufactuered steel plates (various sizes from 1x1metres to 1.6x1.6 metres) and weatherdeck, the plates were positioned and leveled using jacking bolts. The edges of the plates were sealed using Belzona 1111 (Super Metal). Belzona 5811 (Immersion Grade) was injected by single component airless spray into the crevice between the existing deck and reinforcement plate.

Belzona Facts

Belzona was chosen because it was evaluated as safer and more cost effective than conventional deck cutting and plate welding alternatives. Additionally, the Belzona solution is stronger than welding and eliminates the void where corrosion continues. 80kg of Belzona 1111 and 700 litres of Belzona 5811 was used to complete this application in 2 weeks.
