Problem: An existing coating had failed at the base of a rivet tank and degraded due to UV exposure. With the tank base unprotected moisture ingress was able to shoot underneath the tank as the tank expanded and contracted causing further corrosion.

Application Situation

Sealing the base of a rivet tank to protect it against corrosion.

Application Method

This application was carried out in accordance with system leaflet GSS-03. The base of the tank was grit blasted to Sa 2.5 before Belzona 4111 was used to rebuild and create a chamfer angle for the rain water to run off before installing the Belzona tank base sealing system. Once the angle had been created, Belzona 5811 was applied a meter above the application zone for added corrosion resistance. After, the Belzona 4111 was frost blasted and then the whole application areas was conditioned with Belzona 3921 before applying a 2 coat system of Belzona 3111 with the Belzona 9311 reinforcement sheet.

The existing coating had failed due to UV exposure, the client went with the Belzona solution as it offers resistance against UV attack and is a flexible system which allows trapped vapors to escape through the system
