Application Situation
Repair and protection of a glass fiber oil tank.
Application Method
This application was carried out in accordance with TCC-05. As this was a glass fiber tank some adhesion testing was carried out prior to the application being carried out. After good results were achieved from the adhesion testing the bottom of the tank and a meter up the internal walls were all blasted as this was where the corrosion was present. Belzona 1161 was used to rebuild areas where the fiber glass had delaminated under the heating pipes and also to reinforce supports beam at the bottom of the tank. A 2 coat system of Belzona 5892 was then applied to prevent future internal corrosion from occurring at the bottom of the tank.
Belzona Facts
The Belzona was able to bond well to the Fiber glass substrate and provide long term corrosion protection in immersion at elevated temperatures of 70°C.
