Industry:

General Industry (GIND)

Application:

Floor Problem Areas (FPA)

Customer Location:

Yorkshire, UK

Application Date:

April 2019

Application Situation:

A college facility in the UK contacted Belzona regarding the safety grip systems on various sets of steps on their site. The college was run via a charity supporting people with visual impairments and a variety of other disabilities.

Problem:

The safety grip systems in place on 3 separate sets of steps were ageing and no longer performing as intended. This was presenting a significant slip and trip hazard for the staff and students using the facility, warranting them to investigate a suitable replacement for the long term.

Products:

Belzona 4141 (Magma Build)

Belzona 4411 (Granogrip)

Belzona 4911 (Magma TX Conditioner)

Belzona 9211 (Supergrip Aggregate)

Substrate:

Concrete and Brick

Application Method:

First, the existing grip system was removed from the concrete steps and preparation began to ensure a firm and clean substrate. Due to water ingress underneath the metal plates, the was some spalling concrete around the anchor points. Belzona 4141 was used to reform these areas and provide a neat edge on to which the new grip system could be applied. The Belzona 4411 and Belzona 9211 units were mixed then together and applied on to the concrete step nosings in strips.

Belzona Facts:

The Facilities Management team were very pleased with the outcome of the repairs. Not only was the new grip system able to be applied directly on to the concrete and brick surfaces as requested, but the vibrant colour improved the visibility. Overall, this provided a long-term alternative to previously failing system that enhanced the safety of those on site.
