Problem: Accident caused leaks on the flange and bolt areas of the fuel transport hose. This posed a severe environmental hazard necessitating immediate action.

Application Situation

Hoses at a floating oil transfer unit where International shipping load and unload their oil cargo.

Application Method

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SOS-20. A team of 15 divers sealed individual bolts whilst a clamp was sealed around the flange circumference using Belzona® 1161.

Belzona® 1161 provided the divers with a material that could stem the leak underwater averting a major environmental incident. The excellent adhesion and ease of use of the Belzona® 1161 underwater allowed effective repairs to be carried out, allowing oil transfer to be completed before recovering the hose for more permanent repair ashore
