Problem: 3 steel pipelines suffer from outside constant corrosion due to the moisty environment, so the customer needed to protect them. Space around of pipelines is not possible to make dry and it is not possible to use some conventional coats (also temperature of 5°C is a problem). It is necessary to use an environmental moisture-tolerant barrier coating.

Application Situation
The hydroelectric power plant usually uses the dam lake water. When it is not possible, then they use water from the upper reservoir located 1160 meters above sea level, which has no inflow of its own. And on the contrary, when they have an excess of electric energy then it is going the dam lake water to the reservoir. The power plant and the upper reservoir are interconnected via 3 supply pipelines (each with diameter 3 800 mm, length 1 200m) lying in tunnels.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet VPF-2 for applying corrosion resistant coatings. The surface was abrasive blasted to prepare the area and Belzona 5831 (ST-Barrier) was applied directly onto the prepared surface with a spatula in a two coat system

We offered to customer Belzona 5831 (ST-Barrier) test and after 1 year he made decision to use this Belzona product like protection. The first pipeline was done in 2019, next one in 2020 and last one will be done in 2021. Belzona 5831 (ST-Barrier) is an environmental moisture tolerant barrier coating for the protection of metallic surfaces. Belzona 5831 (ST-Barrier) has been specifically formulated for application to surfaces that cannot be dry for application. The product displaces water from the surface ensuring maximum adhesion to damp or wet surfaces and protects against corrosion.
