Problem: Welds connecting the diesel tank to one of the pipes has degraded. Previous attempts had been made to seal leaks around the weld, by adding further weld material, leaving a messy weld area, and failing to solve to issue long term. Subsequently, a clamp was used as a temporary measure to reduce the leak, however this could not stop the leak due to the geometry of the pipe / tank connection.

Application Situation
Diesel tank on a ship, which has docked for a short period for repairs.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet VPF-11. The repair area was prepared using spark free tools to clean and roughen the substrate. A thin layer of Belzona 1212 was scrubbed into the surface to ensure maximum adhesion. The repair area was overwrapped with additional Belzona 1212 and Belzona 9341 (Reinforcement Tape).
Belzona Facts
Previous attempts at repairing the leaks using welding had failed. Furthermore such hot work methods had previously required for full drainage of the tank and thorough cleaning, to make the area safe for hot work, which inhibited the turn around schedule of the ship. The Belzona solution was applied without the need for hot work, meaning the tank did not have to be fully drained. Coupled with the fast curing time of Belzona 1212, the work was carried out well within the ship's scheduled docking time, avoiding unnecessary costs for the owner.
