Problem: The keyway was damaged by galvanic corrosion and in certain areas the damage reached 40mm in width.Corrosion pitting was severe, up to 12 mm deep in the tapered housing.

Application Situation
Pintle housing on cargo ship.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SOS-3. The keyway channel on the rudder was infilled and a new channel machined at 180°.
Belzona Facts
Boring was not an option because the diameter was so far gone. Customer had to rebuild up to 2 cm of metal on the taper of the rudder in order to get correct fit. Belzona was more cost effective and faster than traditional methods such as welding and provided galvanic corrosion protection by isolating the dissimilar metals.
