Application Situation
Basalt lined outlet area of a separator in a paper mill.
Application Method
The surface was prepared with mechanical power tools to roughen and clean the surface of both the Basalt and the steel. The cracked area was then repaired using Belzona 1111 to bond a reinforcement plate over the defect area, inline with Belzona System Leaflet TCC-2. Belzona 1811 was then applied to the outlet pipe and to some worn areas of the Basalt lining inline with Belzona System Leaflet SHM-11, offering additional erosion and abrasion protection.
Belzona Facts
The cracked area has warped, leaving one side of the crack raised above the other, which in turn accelerated the abrasive wear. Traditional solutions such as welding would only fill the gap and not allow for a smooth finish to help reduce the abrasive wear. Belzona was able to reinforce the cracked area and smooth the internal section of the pipe. Belzona 1811 was chosen due to it's high abrasion resistant properties and ease of application in situ. The application was completed within 2 days, keeping down time to a minimum.
