Application Situation
Circulation pipe on a sea vessel.
Application Method
The area around the hole was prepared with a grinder and Belzona 9611 was used for the initial plug. Belzona 1212 was then applied with a doubler plate over the Belzona 9611 since water was still present, and a Belzona mixing board was strapped into place over the Belzona 1212 and plate until it was hard. The remainder of the 30" elbow was prepared with a grinder and washed off with solvent. Belzona 1111 was then brushed into the surface, and loaded onto the Belzona 9341 reinforcement sheet and then wrapped around the pipe from one end to the other. A final layer of Belzona 1111 was applied over the wrap to finish the application.
Belzona Facts
The pipe/elbow was located at the bottom of the vessel and the hole was located where the pipe passed through a bulkhead. This made replacement a very extensive and costly option which would have resulted in at least a week of downtime causing even more of a financial impact. This repair was carried out in one day while the vessel was in full operation with zero impact, and less than a fraction of the cost.
After a year and a half later, the repair is still in good condition. Customer has, since, done the same application on the other side of the same vessel as a preventive measure.
