Problem: The pipeline connected to a suction pump on a closed circuit refrigeration system had suffered from bi-metallic corrosion (A.K.A galvanic corrosion) due to the pipe support, resulting in a complete loss of wall thickness at several locations, leading to live leaks needing to be repaired.
Photograph Descriptions

1). Leaking pipe once the support was removed.

2). Plate bond using Belzona 1212 and held in place using a strap during the polymerisation stage.

3). Belzona 5811 applied over the plate to prevent any future corrotion in the area.

4). Completed application, overcoated with Belzona 5811.

Application Situation
Pipe on a Closed Circuit Refrigeration System within a Sugar Refinery.
Application Method
Supports were erected at either side of the original pipe support. The live leak was then plugged at the various locations using Belzona 9611 in order to divert the leak to one single area. A 10mm plate with a threaded outlet was then cold bonded using Belzona 1212 due to it's very short polymerisation window and held in place using a strap. Once fully cured, a threaded screw was threaded into the plate to stop the leak, followed by 2 coats of Belzona 5811 applied over the plate to prevent any corrosion occurring again in the area. The application was carried out in accordance with modified version of Belzona System Leaflet VPF-11.
Belzona Facts
The pipe was repaired within 2 days due to the amount of localised leaks, however the customer was pleased with the solution as the repair was done in-situ whilst the system was operating therefore eliminating any downtime, hot work and new equipment costs.
