Following changing of the Bronze liner the Rubber lining was damaged and not sealing. This could have lead to crevice and bi-metallic corrosion.
Photograph Descriptions

  2. Preparation and conditioning complete
  3. Belzona® 2141 completed application
  4. Tailshaft complete – all works were undertaken on the lathe
Application Situation
240mm Tailshaft from a 2500 Tonne Deadweight Coastal Products Tanker, passing through aft peak tank.
Application Method
The rubber lining was cut clean away, and roughened using the Belzona Roughing brush. The Bronze liner was tapered to meet the rubber, and left with a rough thread and rebate groove. Following gritblasting of the shaft, Belzona® 1111 was applied between the liner and lining. After Conditioning, Belzona® 2141 was applied to seal between the rubber and the bronze.
Belzona Facts
Using Belzona allowed the customer to take advantage of sealing between rigid and flexible surfaces and prevented the customer needing to strip the previous rubber lining from the shaft.
