Problem: The presence of insulation around the heating medium pipework had let to some corrosion of the pipework over a period of time. During a routine inspection it was decided that applying Belzona® 5851 whilst the pipework remained in service represented the best option to prevent future corrosion.

Application Situation
Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) on heating medium pipework.
Application Method
The pipework was wet-blasted, allowed to dry and any residual aggregate brushed off. Some flash rusting was evident, and considered acceptable prior to application of two 250 micron coats of Belzona® 5851.
Belzona Facts
Belzona® 5851 was successfully used and allowed the customer to deal with an important maintenance issue without the need to remove equipment from service or wait for a future shutdown. The use of wet blasting in this instance allowed for rapid removal of the corrosion deposits, as well as ensuring that no non-visible surface contaminants, such as chlorides from the marine environment, were present.
