Belzona Rebuilds Kiln Support Roller Shaft

General Industry (GIND)

Áreas Know-How:

Mechanical Power Transmission (MPT)

Cliente / ubicación:

Chemical manufacturer (Chromium)

Fecha de aplicación:

April 2005

Situación de aplicación:

Worn seal area on kiln support roller shaft.

In service the shaft had become worn in the area where the lip seal ran. This allowed oil to leak past the seal resulting in the need for regular oil level checking and refilling as well as a serious slip hazard in the surrounding area.

Belzona® 1131 (Bearing Metal)

Método de aplicación:

The application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of Belzona Know-How System Leaflet MPT-2. The repair was carried out in position. Only the top cradle was removed so application was carried out in two parts. After rebuilding top half, kiln was rotated 180° to allow lower half to be rebuilt.

Hechos Belzona:

The traditional repair would involve replacing the roller with a spare held on-site then refurbishing the removed roller via welding/metal spraying before machining. This incurs serious costs. Shaft is reported to be oil free after five months and therefore considered a success by the client.
