BELZONA SOLVES CORROSION LEAKS ON TRANSFORMER LV TURRET
Industry: Power (POWR)
Application: TCC-Tanks and Chemical Containment Areas (TCC)
Substrate: Mild Steel
Customer Location: Electricity Substation, South Coast, UK
Application Date: April 2012
Products:
Belzona® 1221 (Super E Metal)

Photograph Descriptions
- Location of three LV Turrets
- Corrosion and live leak oil discharge
- Plate bonding
- Work completed on one of the Turrets
Application Situation
Outage to Super Grid Transformer and inspection to all exterior HV & LV bushings sited to the Noise Ecnlosure roof area.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflets FBC-6, TCC-1 & RPA-1. After isolating the oil conservator tank and marking area of repair to each Turret, the bituminous coating to the base was removed. Substrate degreased and prepared by MBX and hand abrasion. All live leaks were stemmed using Belzona® 1291. Doubler plate covering the Turret circumference/base bonded in place with Belzona® 1161. Once cured, Belzona® 5831 applied to provide corrosion protection and finally Belzona® 3121 applied to seal full circumference of Turret to roof joint.
