Problem: The vessel was offshore to the Guam Naval Base. Many of the carbon steel pipes in their waste water system had corrosion problems. One of the main pipes had already critical low thickness and a repair was required by the ABS officer to move the ship. The only other options were to replace the pipe section but this was not a realistic option because of access and because the ship had to be moved to dry dock. The captain did not want to move the ship from water before the repair was done.

Application Situation
There were 3 pipes to do of 8-inch,10-inch, and 14-Inch diameter. The only option to the customer was complete replacement or an ABS approved system. The other option was to replace the pipe completely or move the ship with the possibility of pipe rupture. The pressure was 50-80PSI in the system but the water was directly related to the waste water system. The other options to the customer could be very costly and virtually catastrophic if there was a rupture. The Belzona ABS approved system saved money and downtime to the customer. The job was done in 3 days the vessels was then able to be moved. Cabras Marine was the local contractor who did the application with a Belzona engineer supervising.
Application Method
The application method was in accordance with SuperWrap II best practices in application of the system. The surface was prepped with an MBX to and SSPC SP-11 Bare Metal Machine finish. Belzona 1161 was used in the welds and joint areas to smooth and even the surface for wrapping. Two wraps were done as per the specification.
