Protection of floor and walls in a storage room for oil and lubricants with Belzona coatings

Problem: The customer required a durable protection system capable of resisting the mechanical and chemical influences generated by daily activities in the oil and lubricants storage room. At the same time, the customer wanted the solution to be applied without dismantling the existing tanks, devices, and other equipment already installed in the facility.

Situation after 2,5 years – coatings are still in good condition.

Application Situation
Walls and floor of an oil and lubricants storage room were uncoated, which caused permanent dirtiness and greasiness as well as unpleasant odor in the room. Such conditions in the room were unfavorable for employees and the first signs of deterioration of the concrete started to appear so a repair was required..
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet FPA-3 (applied to both walls and floor). Surfaces were grinded using mechanical grinders and thoroughly washed with pressurized water and detergent in order to remove settled impurities. One coat of Belzona 5811 on the walls and two coats of Belzona 5231 on the floor were applied. During application of the first coat on the floor, Belzona 9221 (Surefoot) Aggregate was added in order to achieve anti-slip surface. It was later covered with second coat of Belzona 5231 to make cleaning of the room easier.
Belzona Facts
Our key customer presented this problem and asked for a durable and cost effective solution. Previous good experiences with similar applications in other customer’s factories gave us a decisive advantage over the competition, even though there were cheaper options. The proven resistance of Belzona coatings to all harmful chemical and mechanical influences to which the room is exposed was the most important factor for the customer. Anti-slip protection of the floor was the additional benefit customer got with our solution.
