Belzona® Seals A Ship Hull

Application Situation:

The ship is in dry dock, but this application could have been done underwater.



Lead ballast have been stored in the engine room, leading to galvanic corrosion with the hull.This lead to heavy pitted areas, creating issues regarding the waterproofing of the hull. The ship has to be tugged to another dockyard for replacement of the metal frame.

Application Method:

The application was carried out inaccordance with Belzona Know-How Systems Leaflet SOS-01 + SOS-02 High pressure water cleaning of the hull, rebuilding of the pitted area with Belzona 1161, Application of 1 coat of Belzona 5831 (350 microns) and finally application of Belzona 5811 (350 microns).


Belzona Facts:

After having considered pouring concrete down inside the engine room, the Belzona solution has been approved for its safe application as well as its easiness to apply.
