Problem: Lead ballast have been stored in the engine room, leading to galvanic corrosion with the hull.This lead to heavy pitted areas, creating issues regarding the waterproofing of the hull. The ship has to be tugged to another dockyard for replacement of the metal frame.

Application Situation
Ship hull. The vessel was dry docked. However, the application could have been done at sea.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with modified versions of Belzona Know-How Systems Leaflets SOS-1 and SOS-2. The surface of the hull was prepared using high pressure water cleaning. The pitted areas were rebuilt with Belzona 1161. Upon full cure of Belzona 1161, the 1st coat of Belzona 5831 (350 microns) was applied, and finally, within the overcoat time, the second coat of Belzona 5811 (350 microns).
