Belzona® Solves Leaking School Roofs

Buildings & Structures (BSTR)

Roof Problem Areas (RPA)

Customer Location:

Prestigious boarding school in the south west of England

Application Date:

August 2012

Application Situation:

School had been suffering water ingress via lead flashings & gutters on four boarding house roofs.

Asphalt, used to replace lead flashings in gutters, had failed allowing water ingress into the four boarding house buildings. Several attempts to repair the asphalt had failed. The school required a solution to be cold applied so allowing them to remain in use.

Belzona® 3131 (WG Membrane)

Asphalt, Slate, lead & Stone

Application Method:

The application was carried out in accordance with modified versions of Belzona Know-How System Leaflets RPA-6 & RPA-8.

Belzona Facts:

The Belzona solution was carried out over two weeks. Belzona® 3131 bonding to all of the substrates meant that the old asphalt did not require complete removal which could have led to damage to the slate tiles. The results were a complete success allowing the school continued use of the boarding houses. To replace the damaged asphalt with traditional lead work would have been over budget & involved hot work stopping the use of the boarding houses & the summer school events.
