Application Situation
Sludge immersion pump at a paper mill operating under severe wet abrasion conditions.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflets CEP-3, CEP-4 and CEP-5. Surface preparation was carried out using grit blasting. Pitted and eroded areas were rebuilt with Belzona 1311, the internal surfaces were then coated with Belzona 1321 to protect the pump from erosion-corrosion. Belzona 5811 was then used to protect the external surfaces of the pump.
Belzona Facts
The Belzona solution successfully withstood wet abrasion and managed to significantly prolong the life of this pump. After 4 years in service, the pump was inspected and found to be in perfect condition, with the Belzona coatings predominantly intact. These 4 years of stress-free operation amounted to significant savings due to the absence of maintenance and downtime. The length of maintenance-free time has now been doubled and instead of scrapping the whole pump, customer only needs to replace the coating.
