Belzona® Fills The Gap Between Skid And Deck

Industry:

Oil & Gas (OILG)

Application:

Ships and Offshore Structures (SOS)

Customer Location:

Gulf of Mexico, USA

Application Date:

February 2016

Application Situation:

A new skid package was welded to the deck but did not sit flush, due to uneven surfaces. The deck was losing metal from corrosion and had sevral holes in it.

Problem:

To avoid water and debris from getting between the skid and deck, the gap between the two had to be sealed. Hot work would take weeks to weld the entire perimeter as the gap was 1.5" in some places. The seal also needed to be flexible to absorb any possible vibration.

Products:

Belzona 1121 (Super XL-Metal)

Belzona 2211 (MP Hi-Build Elastomer)

Belzona 3111 (Flexible Membrane)

Belzona 3921 (GSC Surface Conditioner)

Belzona 9111 (Cleaner Degreaser)

Belzona 9331 (MR7 Reinforcement Sheet)

Substrate:

Carbon Steel

Application Method:

The areas of the deck suffering from metal loss were repaired with Belzona 1121. Then, all surfaces were primed with Belzona 3921 prior to using Belzona 3111 as a flexible sealant. The gap between the deck and skid was filled with Belzona 2211. Belzona 9331 was saturated with Belzona 3111 to bridge over interface.

Belzona Facts:

Welding this gap would have caused a shut-in with loss of production. To repair the gap between the skid and deck with hot work would require weeks to complete the repair. The Belzona solution saved the customer time and provided a repair that was also flexible to absord possible vibrations.
