Problem: Capstans had been pitted and deformed because of chains that had been used to anchor to dock. Chains had been replaced by new technology rope which were being damaged by the uneven and rough capstan surfaces.

Application Method

Application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SOS-2.

Belzona Facts

Belzona products were chosen as they could be applied in place, repair the metal to protect the ropes from further damage which would improve the service life of the expensive ropes as well as the metal capstans. Had the Belzona repair and coating not been used, the price to replace the ropes would have been over $90,000. The material and labor cost was less than 10% and both capstans were repaired.
