Problem: The skimmer, working in an open environment meters above the sea, had numerous holes and was continuously leaking. Welding was not an option for repair because of the hot work involved.

Application Method

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet GSS-9. Metal plates were prefabricated ashore about 10mm larger than the existing vessel. After surface preparation, the plates were located on the vessel, the edges sealed with Belzona® 1111 and Belzona® 5811 was then injected through strategically arranged series of injection ports to ensure air was not trapped and the entire void between plates and vessel wall was filled with Belzona® 5811.

The cold bonding solution avoided hot work and was completed in just 3 days. This engineered solution ensured the skimmer could continue in service for many more years.
