Belzona SuperWrapII System

Problem: Severe corrosion on 17 years old 18" production riser on a North sea oil producing platform had resulted in a critical through wall defect. The riser was containing drillfluid as the oil production from the well been stopped recently. The drillfluid was leaking into the surrounding casing through the defect creating possible safety and environmetal issues. The design parameters were: 20 years life expectancy, design temperature 55 deg Celcius and design pressure 1 MPa

Application Situation

17 years old 18" offshore riser.

Application Method

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona System Leaflet VPF-11. Following gritblasting, the defect area was patched with a layer of Belzona 1111. Immedeatley after this, the Belzona SuperWrap II system was installed in accordance with the calculated dimensions. After curing the application for 48 hours, a custom-made clamp was assembled to set the casing back to its former location and purpose, covering the SuperWrapII repair completely.
