Substrate: Rubber
Customer Location: Zagreb, Croatia

Problem: Worn rubber cladding was allowing belt slippage on a floating conveyor system used for transporting gravel. Whenever it happened on one of the rollers, the whole system would stop and it takes 30 minutes to restart it back to operating at full service. In rainy periods of the year this happens often and it is a significant loss of production time. Customer should also have spare rollers in stock ready for immediate installation.

Application Situation
Anti-slip chevron strips were applied directly onto an existing worn rubber lining of a conveyor drive roller. This was done without removing the lining and without dismantling the roller.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How system leaflet SHM-9. Repair was carried out on site, during planned downtime of the plant. The conveyor belt was removed 10 cm away from the roller so that the roller could be rotated manually during the application, without touching the belt. Surface preparation was completed with a rotary wire brush and Belzona hand tools for the rubber. Next, chevron strips were marked with masking tape and the surface was conditioned with Belzona 2911. Finally, Belzona 2111 was brush applied and Belzona 9211 was incorporated into the material.
Belzona Facts
The benefit for the customer was avoiding the dismantling and transportation of rollers to the shore and also avoiding use of the stock of lined rollers. Removal of existing worn rubber lining and installing a new one must be completed by other contractors, which takes time and money. Application took 3 hours with Belzona and 24 hours for the Belzona 2111 to cure.
