Problem: The chimneys are made of steel and are resting on a concrete base. Moisture between the chimney and the supporting concrete resulted in corrosion taking place on the chimney as well as a high risk for frost heave in the concrete.

Application Situation
Three Chimneys for furnaces.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflets GSS-3 and TCC-5. After grit blasting the repair area, the steel was protected with Belzona® 5811 and the Belzona® 3211 reinforced system was applied across the junction between steel and concrete.
Belzona Facts
Belzona micro-porous Membrane systems are extenmsively used to provide weather-proofing of tank bases so as to prevent under-tank corrosion, the same arrangement and problems as found on these chimneys. The system prevents water entering whilst allowing any existing moisture to dry out.
