Problem: As a relatavely new power plant on the banks of tidal estuary, the CW pumps and ancillary pipe work were showing significant erosion and corrosion after a short period of service. They were pumping large volumes of water from the river, which is very erosive even after it has been screened.

Main intake pipework drawing sea water into the power station.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona System Leaflets VPF-1 & VPF-2. Particular attention was paid to washing and blasting to remove salts, then badly eroded areas were re-built with Belzona® 1311 and then two coats of Belzona® 1321 applied.
Belzona Facts
The first bend, which is shown in the photographs, was opened up in March 2007 with a view to being refurbished. However when it was inspected, it was found to be in perfect condition.
