Problem: Wood chips wear the cast steel as they slide across the spinning disc pockets. When the pockets wear too far the chips break causing what is called "fines". If this occurs, the price that the mill receives for their chips will be lowered.

Application Situation

Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaft SHM-13. The knives and counter knives are removed. The pocket is grit blasted. The counter knives are coated with Belzona 9411 and reinstalled, they are used as a guide for the thickness of the Belzona 1811. Belzona 1811 is mixed and applied to the pocket. Let it cure for 40 minutes to an hour. Wearing rubber gloves, add dish soap to water. Use the mixture to press the carbide chips into the ceramic making a smooth surface. This prevents the chips from clogging the disc.

The standard method of repair by removing, welding, machining and stress relieving can cost upwards of $30,000.00 and take 3 weeks or more to complete. Some mills will have a spare disc to install. Swapping discs can take two days. The Belzona rebuild can be done on a Saturday morning and the disc can be back in service Monday morning with the cost of less than $1,500.00.
