Problem: A Wemco oil/water/gas separator used for cleaning water was suffering from a through wall defect. The customer required this vessel to be operational again. Bypassing the unit was not allowed and without the functioning separator the platform could not run production of oil.

Application Method

The application was carried out in accordance with the Method Statement for Cold Plate Bonding. A confined-space-entry certified contractor completed the surface preparation and application in 2 hours.

Belzona Facts

Replacement of the vessel was not an option as it would have taken 9 weeks and several hundred thousand dollars. The total time between noticing the leak, emptying the vessel, abrasive blasting, and applying Belzona took 24 hours. The vessel was back in service in 32 hours.
