Problem: The workshop tried to repair this crack by welding it but when the weld cooled down the crack reopened and also created more cracks in the gearbox casing. Quarry contacted Belzona for an alternative solution.

Application Situation
Gearbox from CAT 966G loader was dropped from crane during routine maintenance causing large crack.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet ENC-1. After drilling and tapping ends of all cracks to "blind" them steel straps were bolted across the vee'd out cracks before sealing with Belzona® 1111 incorporating Belzona® 9341 (Reinforcement Tape). Finally the repair  was smoothed and painted.

Repairing the cracks by welding had failed and the cost of new gearbox casing was £7,000 with weeks /months of delay. Approx £200 of Belzona products were used therefore saving the quarry approx £6,800 and the repaired gearbox was back in service within 4 days
