Problem: The sump pipe was cracked along its structure due to impact. It was required to seal the affected area using surface tolerant products that could also be used under water.

Application Situation
Sump pipe at an oil and gas platform.
Application Method
Surface was cleaned in accordance with ISO 8501-1 St2/3 using a pneumatic sander. Fouling was chiseled away from the metallic structure. Prior to commencement of the application several plates were coated with Belzona 5811/Belzona 5831 to prevent and protect these pieces from further corrosion. Theoretical and practical training was imparted to the divers responsible for applying the products under water. Belzona 1111 was applied onto the panels before submersion. The plates were installed from top to bottom. “U” clamps were used to exert pressure onto the plates and to remove excess material. Belzona 1161 was then used to fill any gaps and to seal the ends of the plates. Upon completion, inspection was carried out and a small leak was detected. The leak was repaired with the Belzona 1161/Belzona 5831 system.
