Problem: Over the years, corrosion had caused loss of wall thickness at the base of the transformer fins with leaks beginning to occur.

Application Situation
Cooling fins on a 33Kv transformer.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet VPF-11a. The cooling fins were pressure cleaned and prepared where possible with an MBX Bristle Blaster. Live leaks were stemmed with Belzona 1291and Belzona 1221.  The fins were encapsulated using a 3mm metal plate bonded with Belzona 1161. Belzona 5831 was poured in to seal and encapsulate all the fins and then finally used to coat the fins.
Belzona Facts
The customer was looking for a long term repair on the asset and with the use of the Belzona system this was achieved. The surface tolerant properties of the Belzona system enabled the repair to be successfully completed inthis difficult to access area. The customer was delighted with the results and is looking to repeat the application to other transformers on their sites throughout Scotland and Northern England.
