Problem: The column was suffering from dozens of cracks due to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and some of them were leaking.

Application Method

Belzona 1591 was applied over the cracked areas to eliminate further cracks formation and Belzona 1111 was used to repair the leaking cracks from outside. Copper wire brush was the only suitable surface preparation tool due to the presence of flammable material. This application was completed in accordance with a modified version of Belzona System Leaflet TCC-01.

Belzona Facts

Hot work was not an option due to flammable material inside the column and the large number of cracks. The plan was to replace the column after 6-8 months but Belzona’s performance was exceptional. It stopped the leakage and no further SCC was observed. The column is still in operation after 5 years.
