A clean, solid, roughened substrate

Surface built up with Belzona 1111

Completed application ready for cutlass bearings

Application Situation
Struts supporting propulsion system and housing cutlass bearings on 200 foot dredging vessel.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with SOS-9 BelzonaKnow-How System Leaflet. The substrate was machined down via boring to achieve a clean, solid substrate free of any corrosion. Substrate was then blasted with an angular grit to give a minimum surface profile of 3 mils. Substrate was then power washed with HoldTight 102 to bring salt contamination to acceptable levels. Belzona 1111 was then mixed and applied to build up the surface proud and then once cured, machined back to tolerance.
Belzona Facts
The alternative to this repair would be a massive amount of welding. Welding would also introduce the possibility of Galvanic corrosion. The customer chose the Belzona solution to save time and money and to prolong the repair of their asset. Belzona 1111 will not corrode in seawater.
