Problem: Previous repairs on the boxes had been unsuccesful and close inspection revealed concealed through-wall defects as well as general corrosion damage. The customer wanted a solution that would waterproof the boxes, but could be removed when the switches inside were due for inspection.

Application Situation

Corroded inspection box covers at a National Grid site.

Application Method

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflets TCC-1 and GSS-11. Holes were repaired by bonding on small metal plates and other areas of corrosion were rebuilt with Belzona 1111 to allow the cover plate to fit correctly. Belzona 3411 system was then applied to seal the cover plate to provide a water-tight seal.

Belzona Facts

The customer was very happy with the end result. The Belzona repairs ensured a long term solution and the use of the Belzona 3411 made access for inspection to the switces simple. The inspection hatches were revisted 8 months later and the Belzona solution was found to be in perfect condition.
