Belzona Rebuilds and Protects Floor Decks in Mill Area

Problem: As part of the maintenance schedule, equipment was removed from the floor decks. In addition, sugar fluids have deteriorated the coating applied in the past. The customer required rebuilding and coating all these spot during 4th of July weekend.

Damaged section after surface preparation was completed.

Damaged section rebuilt using Belzona 4124.

Rebuilt section after one coat of Belzona 5811 and coat of Belzona 4311. Both were broadcasted with aggregate to rejection.

Repair completed with a final coat of Belzona 4311 to encapsulate the aggregate.

Application Situation

The customer made a last minute decision to remove equipment and address the deterioration of the floor due to Sugar acids exposure. This customer has been working with Belzona coating systems for a long time. They knew that they could trust Belzona products and the in-house maintenance contractor. Downtime was also an issue. There were more than one hundred spots to be repaired in three days.

Application Method

Repairs and coating were performed in accordance with a modified version of system leaflets FPA-01 and FPA-03.

Belzona has been working with this customer for several years. The curing times of the products and the availability of the products during same day was a deciding factor. The plant has previously used a Rust-Oleum coating system which was failing in some areas.
