Coating of 1 out of 3 Francis Turbines used to power a Hydro-electric plant located within a dam in Portugal.
Application Method
This application was carried out in accordance with system leaflet CEP-03 and CEP-10. The Francis turbine arrived in the workshop with visible signs of corrosion, erosion and rust. The Francis turbine was cleaned and grit blasted to SA2.5, achieving a surface profile of 75 microns. After the cleaning & blasting process, 2 coats of Belzona 1341 were applied to the whole turbine.
Belzona Facts
The customer had historically coated 1 of the 3 turbines with Belzona, and another turbine with a competitor coating system. After years in service, the client favoured the Belzona system as it was easy to apply and also make repairs when needed. The turbine coated with Belzona had been in service 9 years before remedial re-coat work was needed to be made. One year after the remedial work on turbine 2, this 3rd turbine operating within the hydro-electric plant was coated at the distributors workshop before being sent back to the plant to be put back in service.
