Problem: Loss of steel, leading to thin walling on the boat's hull. This damage has occured due to corrosion within the marine environment. The asset owner was looking for a solution to reinstate the metal loss and provide long lasting protection against the harsh environment at sea.

Application Situation

A repair to a carbon steel boat hull using Belzona SuperWrap II patch repairs, plus a further coating of Belzona 1321.

Application Method

The application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of Belzona System Leaflet SOS-2. Once the areas that required repair were established and prepared via abrasive blasting, a patch repair manufactured using the Belzona SuperWrap II system, was then applied before being overcoated by Belzona 1321 (Ceramic S-Metal).

The SuperWrap II patch was specifically designed for this application to provide a cost-effective and long lasting corrosion barrier to the boat's hull, just above the waterline. The asset owner was extremely happy that the Belzona solution provides oustanding corrosion protection without the need of hot work, increasing the ease of application.
