Mitigating the abrasive effect of ash with Belzona lining

Problem: A metal element is placed within the ash treatment system of a coal-fired powerplant. It is exposed to abrasion from ash particles being transported, which leads to wall thinning and eventually failure.

Application Situation
Rectangular section element needed to be protected from abrasion caused by ash particles which move turbulently through the element. Customer wanted to prevent premature failure and extend lifetime of the element. We could secure both.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SHM-13. Surfaces were grit blasted and degreased with acetone. Belzona 1812 was applied to all internal surfaces of the element using Belzona application tools.
Belzona Facts
Customer has previous good experiences with Belzona 1812, so he approached us with this problem. The element was being preventively replaced every year. Based on our previous experiences, we could guarantee that lifetime will be multiplied with Belzona 1812 lining, which put us ahead of alternative solutions (competitors). Furthermore, Belzona 1812 lining can be easily refurbished (partially or completely) once it is worn, in some cases even without dismantling the element.
